UNIT/PITT 50th Anniversary Exhibition Opening and Publication Launch | Nov 7
You are formally invited to the opening night of 50: Half a Century of UNIT/PITT, and the launch of the Unit is U 50th anniversary publication on November 7, 7-11PM.
The evening will feature live audio and visual archival interventions by Kaila Bhullar and Jefferson Alade, reimagining artist david george morgan’s extensive audio and video archive of the Pitt of the Past. Then, Jefferson will carry us through the evening with open decks—sign up form to come!
50 will be open for viewing from November 8, 2025 – February 15, 2026 (hours TBA). The exhibition will provide an opportunity to witness a glut of historical records from our extensive archive, documenting Vancouver’s early artist-run culture from 1975 onwards. The exhibition will be accompanied by a special events series, including a Visioning Palestine Revisited gathering hosted by Noor Ghazal, a collage workshop with Sam Olsen, a film night hosted by XINEMA, and the first of our recurring monthly jazz night c.a.f.f (calling all friendly faces) curated by Ben Frost.
November 7 will also be the launch of our 50th Anniversary publication UNIT is U, designed by the brilliant Shafira Vidyamaharani. Edited by Catherine de Montreuil, Kira Saragih, and Alison Bosley, the publication features contributions by Dana Claxton, Lauren Han, Reece Metcalf, Katayoon Yousefbigloo, Emma Sommers, Kay Higgins, Sara Ellis, and many more. UNIT is U presents an essential history (and future) of UNIT/PITT through musings and mishaps spanning five decades of the organization’s particular brand of messy, oft absurd, yet fiercely community-minded artist-run culture.
Presales for UNIT is U will be available next week, with discounts available for U/P members—sign up today! 🙂

Near Dwellers as Indwellers
an art + research project exploring new visions for multispecies neighborhoods
Bothkinds Project Space
602 E. Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC V6A 1R1
Exhibition Dates: October 1 — December 16, 2025
Opening Reception: Friday, October 3, 2025, 5:30 - 9:00 pm
Near Dwellers as Indwellers is an art-research project: an exhibition, an expanded workshop, an open forum, a set of thought experiments, and an invitation to reimagine our relationship with undomesticated animals in the city. We invite participants—artists, designers, scholars, students, members of the public—to join us in exploring the aesthetics and politics of who exactly is visible as an animal neighbour? What are their needs, and what does this entail for how we share space, care for, and take responsibility for the well-being of our fellow animal neighbours?
The exhibition features works by artists and designers, alongside a guest speaker series and artist-led workshops, to explore our attitude to “wild” and enigmatic more-than-human animals that traverse, endure, or dwell within the city, and in turn, to imagine new ways for living more conscientiously with them as members of our communities. As van Dooren and Bird Rose ask: What are the “possibilities for a more equitable multispecies city, a task that is particularly important for those species that are in some way tied or drawn to specific city places, and perhaps especially, in these perilous times, for those whose future is endangered.”
The Near Dwellers exhibition program, initiated in 2023, is jointly led by Street Road Artists Space (Cochranville, Pennsylvania) and the Tree Museum (Pender Island, BC).
Near Dwellers as Indwellers is presented in collaboration with Bothkinds Project Space. We are grateful for the support of Emily Carr University of Art + Design and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council.
